Apple unveils powerful iPhone 5s and colorful iPhone 5c
If you missed yesterday’s Apple Special Event fear not, for the affair could be infinitely summarized in two words: power and color. And it’s all about the iPhone; actually two new ones: iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.
When it comes to iPhone, it is not unusual for Apple to allude to power, but this is the first time that color walked on stage – and we are not talking only black or white here.

Apple’s September 10th Special Event was held at its headquarters in Cupertino, California. The event was not accessible to the public via live streaming which we found a bit below par. However, Apple uploaded a video in a little over an hour after the end of the otherwise succinct one-hour event. A link to the video on Apple’s website can be found towards the end of this article.
Apple Special Event in less than 100 words
The emotional charge of the event revolved at large around Phil Schiller unveiling two new iPhone devices: the cheaper but colorful iPhone 5c and the powerful iPhone 5s. Craig Federighi announced the public release date for iOS 7: September 18th, and we also learned little about iTunes and its future unannounced version which will feature iTunes Radio.

Tim Cook spoke much about the iTunes Festival which is deemed to celebrate Apple’s passion for music across 30 nights of live performances in London including Justin Timberlake, Elton John and Jack Johnson. You can find out more about iTunes Festival by visiting the festival’s official page.
iPhone 5c as in Cheap, Colorful, and Cool?
Towards the second half of Apple’s Special Event, Phil Schiller walked on stage and unveiled the new iPhone 5c. Superlatives which stimulated loud and frequent applause included: “remarkable”, “vivid”, “colorful” and “familiar”. The fact is, iPhone 5c is not much different from its predecessor, the iPhone 5.

The chief transformation which sets iPhone 5c apart are the 5 colors in which it will be available: blue, green, pink, white and yellow. The polycarbonate back, iPhone 5c is made out of, shines with color and is in Apple’s words “unapologetically plastic”.
Other improvements over the iPhone 5 are a better front camera, larger battery and improved audio. The price could be a stumble though as it is a mere $100 cheaper than the iPhone 5s, itself packed with 64-bit power, better performance and major improvements over the common predecessor. The optional 5c funky silicon skins don’t come cheap either at $29 apiece.
From what we learned by Apple Special Event we award – unapologetically – the iPhone 5c with five C-s for “color” and one C for “cheap”. How many C-s would you give for “Cool”?
iPhone 5c vs iPhone 5s. Features and specs
The iPhone 5s announced at the Apple Special Event looks almost exactly the same as the iPhone 5. The main difference is in its specs. The 5s features a fingerprint sensor branded as Touch ID, largely improved camera which can now shoot video in 120 fps slow-motion as well as Apple’s new A7 and M7 processor chips which bring up to twice the graphics and speed performance over the iPhone 5. Of course, it all comes in three different metallic hues: silver, gold and space grey.

What we didn’t see in Apple’s Special Event
No new devices were announced aside from the iPhone 5c and 5s. We would have liked to see the much rumored iPad Mini 2 with Retina display. No word on that yet.
There is also almost no word on the next iTunes version, although we suspect that it is going to come out as soon as the end of this week or at latest, sometime next week and that it is going to feature iTunes Radio.
Similarly, not much was said about the final iOS 7 apart from its official release date.
In short, this autumn’s Apple Event was brief and all about the two new iPhones.
